Lunch at the beach, Oman  (4 minutes)

It was too hot to sit out in the sun and as there were no trees then Omani’s have come up with their own solution.

My first camel, Oman  (2 minutes)

I had been cycling in Oman for nearly 2 weeks before I came across my first camel.  They are amazing creatures – so quiet, graceful and they don’t smell too bad !!!

Ras Al Hadd beach, Oman  (1 minute)

The stunning beaches of Ras al Hadd see 20,000 turtles visit to lay their eggs. As such, there has been no development along the coast and during the day you will have the beach to yourself (can’t visit the beaches after 6pm and no camping).  This stretch of pristine coastline is beautiful.

Sand Storm, Oman  (1 minute)

I had planned to leave to start my cycle into the Hijar Mountains but mother nature threw a spanner into the works and when I woke up a sand storm was raging through the area.
I have no idea what the wind speed was but when I went outside after breakfast I knew that I wouldn’t be able to cycle into it.

The Road To Ras Al Hadd, Oman  (3 minutes)

The road between Sur and Ras al Hadd is stunning.  Beautiful white sand beaches, empty roads and lots of small fishing villages to sit and enjoy a masala tea.

Toilets In Oman  (3 minutes)

It may seem a strange thing to make a video about but toilets in Oman have made my cycle ride so much more comfortable !!!  They provide drinking water, a place to go to the loo, a place to shower, a place to sleep and even free electricity to recharge my equipment.

Sharqiya Wahibi Sands, Oman  (9 minutes)

Wahiba Sands covers an area of 12,500 square kilometers of desert and to distinguish between different sections areas tend to be referred to based on the types of dunes found there.
The desert is divided into the high, or upper, Wahiba and low Wahiba. My destination that day was an ‘upper’ area which contained mega-ridge sand systems with dunes that measure rise to more than 100 meters in height.

Camping at Wadi Bani Khalid, Oman  (7 minutes)

I’m not sure that there is anything more beautiful than sleeping in a date plantation on the banks of a wadi.  The only thing that disturbed my night was the Bangali lad irrigating the date trees.  At least I avoided my tent getting flooded !!!

Jebel Shams, Oman  (3 minutes)

Jebel Shams was a 1500m climb over just a few kilometres.  The view from the top though was worth the sweat.

As I rolled through the old town of Nizwa I shot a video to give you some idea of how beautiful the mix of old and new buildings are.

The Climb To Wadi Bani Khalid, Oman  (4 minutes)

For the first time in Oman I would now be heading into the mountains and I knew that along this road there was a short but very steep section where I would climb nearly 500m over a couple of kilometres.

Grand Canyon, Oman  (5 minutes)

Jebel Shams is Oman’s highest mountain. If that is not a good enough reason to climb it then the view over ‘The Grand Canyon of Arabia’ should be enough to change your mind .  Watch my video as I walk along the goat track at the edge of the canyon where below me was a 1000m drop !!!!

After more than 3 weeks climbing up and down Oman’s beautiful mountains I had finally cycled my final pass and it felt fantastic.
